MEDIA LITERACY ONLINE PROJECT
Project to provide a support service for teachers, and others, concerned with the influence of media in the
lives of children and youth. We have created this comprehensive media literacy resource collection to
facilitate that objective. For all grade levels.
TEACHING TELEVISION
Teaching children in Grades 1-6 a variety of techniques in critically evaluating media messages and projects.
THE MEDIA AND "PUTDOWNS"!
A teaching unit for the middle grades To help students spot the sources of the put-down mentality
and to evaluate its effects, ask them to examine current advertisements and spot what/who's "cool"
and who/what isn't. You might want to concentrate on the following areas: fashion, pop idols, sports
stars, disabilities, racial groups, nationalities, religions.

This special C-SPAN classroom section offers information and resources for educators who use
C-Span in their classrooms.
CNBC
Basicly useful for immediate news and market updates and program listings. Doesn't appear to have
an education or classroom section.
DISCOVERY
Includes special Teacher section with lesson plans, teaching tools, investigations, clip art gallery
and much more including program listings for the ANIMAL PLANET, http://animal.discovery.com/.
THE DISNEY CHANNEL
Includes program guides and interactive activities for students. Heavy with sound and animation
so you need a computer capable of this kind of interactivity.
THE FAMILY CHANNEL
This links takes you to the Family Channel's Cable in the Classroom page. It has special monthly
programming and activities and you can download Study Guides as pdf files.
THE HISTORY CHANNEL
The History Channel encourages students to experience history personally and to connect their own
lives to the events and great figures of the past. Besides program listings, check out This Day in
History and the special Classroom Link with study guides listed alphabetically.

Mainly up-to-the-minute news, market, sports and headlines and program listings. Doesn't appear to
have an education or classroom section.

Great teacher site with special PreSchool and Elementary School Program Listings, Monthly Program

Includes links to Programming and Specials, Teacher Source and PBS Kids link.
SCI-FI
Includes links to the OnAir Schedule and Lesson Guides as well as directions on how to tape programs
